Virtual Paralegals: 7 Tips to Improve Your Productivity When You Work From Home

If you are anything like me, a virtual paralegal assistant working from a small home office, you may find it difficult to focus on the tasks at hand with the many distractions you have around you. At one point, my home office was so cluttered with unnecessary stuff - too much furniture, kids' toys, hubby's tools and other "what-nots." I was unproductive and believed there were not enough hours in the day to get my work done. I was wrong.

There are more than enough hours in each day to tackle your to-do lists, run a successful business, spend quality time with your family, and live the fabulous entrepreneurial life you've envisioned.

But, there are a few things you must do to get the most out of that time and improve your productivity. Here are 7 that come to mind right away:

1. Designate an area or room as your home office.

If possible, try to keep your workspace totally separate from your living area. If you have an office door, use it at times when you need to "strap-in" and get things done. If your family knows you are off-limits when the office door is shut, this will limit the distractions and enable you to get your work done and get back to your family.

2. Get rid of the clutter in your home office.

Take a moment to toss out what does not belong in your office, and make space for the things you need to run your business. For me, those "things" I need in my home office include office furniture, equipment and office supplies, as well as family photos and quotes that inspire me.

3. Invest in comfortable office furniture.

I believe the more comfortable you are, the more time you will spend getting work done in your home office.

4. Meditate before you start your day.

Try to allot time at the beginning of each day to meditate. This will help you relax your mind and focus on the day ahead of you and what you want to accomplish.

5. Try to start each day with an action plan.

Before you start your day ask yourself, "What will I accomplish today?" Do whatever you must to get your daily plans on paper, preferably in a list that is easy to review and mark as you complete each task.

6. Keep your to-do list realistic and manageable.

If you estimate the amount of time you will need to complete each task, you will have an idea of how much you can realistically get done each day. This will help you keep your to-do lists manageable.

7. Limit distractions and stay focused on what you need to get done.

Your ability to stay focused would be easier without the many distractions that come along with working from home. If you have a habit of checking your email account several times an hour, log out of your account immediately! Because email can be one of the most counter-productive tools, you may want to schedule times to check and respond to your emails throughout the day.

From now on, instead of assuming there are not enough hours in the day, try to maximize the time you do have available. Take action now and start []improving your productivity when you work from home.

These are great tips. Thankfully I don't have many of these problems. My issue is finding attorneys to work with. Any tips or articles on finding attorney-clients?
